Third Grade Week 3

Another fun and exciting week teaching third grade.  My appreciation for elementary teachers continues to grow.  The High School was a piece of cake compared to this.  I love it though.

This week we worked on the beginnings of multiplication (arrays, repeated addition, and groups of).  We really hit our writing practice as well as teaching cursive writing.  Students learned prefixes and suffixes.  Last week's reading log was turned in and the theme was giving a senior citizen a hug.  Many of the students did just that.  This week's reading logs theme is National Banana week.  So eat those bananas.

Remember homework is taken home on the last day of the week and returned on the last day of the week.  This way we don't have to worry about kids remembering to bring in their assignments every day.

Thanks to all the parents and students who came and helped out at the HP fundraiser.  The third grade teachers were hit with about 200 water balloons.  Many of them did break, but most hit their target.  I am glad that some didn't hit their target, because they had a pretty good aim.

This week we will be working with division and some more work and starting memorizing our multiplication facts.  Writing will continue throughout the year and by the time we are done, we might get some students ready to publish a book.  We will begin typing our writing out usually on Thursdays and will begin teaching students how to type.

NOTE:  In two weeks is our first AR party.  In order to attend students have to get 80-100% accuracy on AR tests and meet 50% of their goal.  If you check FamilyLink you will be able to see where your student is at with the goal.  So far, we only have 1 students who has made it and two that are close, so I will continue to encourage students to read.  If you could help me with that, I would appreciate it and so will the kids.  The FamilyLink login is not the same as a studen'ts login.  If you have never used the FamilyLink or don't remember your parent account, let me know and I will get that to you.

NOTE 2:  I do my best to make sure students who were requested not to be in my video and not have pictures uploaded to the site.  If you ever feel that I have not made this happen that way you envisioned, please let me know.  I can delete videos from Youtube quickly and have them edited just as fast.  I can also have any image that you feel is not good deleted off of my website in a jiffy.
