Third Grade Week 13-16
First a shout out to the parents who have come in to class to work with the kids on their research paper. That was a big help to a big need.
Well we have done plenty. I apologize for being so late with getting this out. I have been taking a reading class on Saturdays, and that has been taking my time plus having family over for during Thanksgiving break didn't help. Below is the vlog that covers the last few weeks.
We are wrapping up this semester. Benchmark testing is next week. This week is going to be reviewing all the concepts we have learned, in order to get prepared for those benchmarks. Benchmarks let us teachers and you as parents know of the progress that your students are making on the individual skills that will be tested during the AzMerit tests in the spring. They are progressing and some of the students are ahead of where they need to be, many are right on track, leaving only a few that we are all trying to help get prepared.
Two ways that students can prepare from home are with the Prodigy game that is aligned with the standards and what will be on the benchmarks as well as IXL which can also target math skills. If you don't have access to these two programs or don't allow students to use the home computer much, then practicing flash cards can go a long way to working on fluency. Students should be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers up to 100 by the end of this first semester.
With regards to reading, student just need to read. Keep an eye on their AR goals and their percentages correct. If their percentage average is not at 80 percent we are working hard with them and some strategies would be to ask your students what is going on in the story, have them retell it to you, have them read aloud, ask about character traits, ask for information about the setting and information about the whos, the whats, the whys, the wheres, and the whens that are found inside the book.
Don't forget that there are many resources for many but not all math and reading topics on the 3rdgrade.xyz website.
Together, including your student, we can be the most prepared class for the upcoming benchmarks and AzMerit testing.
I am still enjoying the time I get to spend with your children. Have a great week.
